Well, I bought a 62' Bug off a farm, and outta a barn last weekend!! This jewel had been sitting 10 plus years! But it's in remarkable shape...bad paint, some rust...but the drive train is a survivor! With my 5 year olds help, we fished a new 1/4" Stainless line through the tunnel, and added new flex line with a filter (before the pump as mentioned on here...thanks!) Added a new fuel pump....and WOW! She's a great runner....bad points, old plugs and all! Hope to have it on the road next week, with new brakes!!! This site is great! Thanks to everybody that keeps it going with advice!! Scott |

-Hemifalcon- Pics are in progress...gotta figure out how to get them from the phone cam to the comp I just went through ALL of your pics!! Great documentation!! Remarkably...our bugs look almost identical (in original form!!) Mine is also Ruby red...and plan to put it back that way. Question for you...why do some 62's have amber turnsignals...and ours both have the clear lenses?? -67 Florida Deluxe- I bought this bug to beat the gas crunch!! All my vehicles have v-8's, and they are killing me at the pump! I want to drive it like it is...then do a mild restoration later on. 1600dp with dell's....freeway flyer trans. Lower it about 2 in...with smoothies and caps. I'd really like to duplicate the article in Hot VW's..."mileage motor" Scott |

Scott, the '62's as far as I know all had the clear lenses for the turn signals up front. In '63, they went to the amber turn lenses up front. As for the rear, i'm pretty sure all the American cars stayed sold red instead of having an amber 'turn' portion of the lens. While you are spending money, spend some money on a digital camera, they are too cheap now to not have one. Phone pics always suck when you put them on the computer. I look forward to seeing the progress of yours however it comes along! -John _________________ '62 VW Bug Sedan (Ruby Red) Resto pics> http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v697/hemifalcon/Bug%20resto/?start=all&paginator=top |

Woo hoo! Another 62 on the road! Congrats. I've owned a TON of busses - and exactly 2 beetles. 63 and 62. My 63 had 12 volt, a 1600dp, and was upgraded. It was fun - no doubt - but nothing man - NOTHING beats stock 1200 for fun. Just my opinion though. On the amber - in addition a LOT of parts houses carry the amber - and a LOT of people just assume thats the right type to use. Have fun - and get some pics up! *********************************** |

Good start these - basic and clean - and fairly complete. Only things I see missing is the overrider bumpers, and Bendix I radio - looks like you may have a later radio in there. Reds a great color for bugs! *********************************** |

I agree Ryan...I was kinda broken hearted that the over-riders were gone. They won't be as hard to replace as they were on my 67' split bus!!! I pieced them together for 2 years!!! The bug has a Saphire VII...I'll be keeping this one a 6volt...so I may be an ebay'er again for another radio!!! It's only missing a few small things, coupler cover on the tunnel (that was the access point for years of mouse familes!!!), spare tire, over-riders, think that was it! It even has the original carb/ oil bath air cleaner!! Think I did pretty well for being away from VW's for over 16 years |

Congrats on the 6 volt decision? Don't you mean have fun living in the stone ages? There's a reason Volkswagen [and all others] stepped away from low voltage... Great for a trailer princess but if you want to drive it daily a good stereo and lights you can actually count on to point the way home are just about necessities. I lived with my HD 45" solo running on 6 volts for the better part of a decade and hated every miserable second of it. _________________ Southside Buggistas VW & kit car club www.southsidebuggistas.com Mongo only pawn in game of life...
