When can I register for classes at UMD? ›

Registration for the fall semester begins late March, and for the spring semester, begins late October.

Students can view the day and time they can first register and registration blocks on Testudo. This is not an appointment with an academic advisor or Office of the University Registrar, but when a student can log into Testudo Drop/Add and register for classes.

The Spring intake starts in January and is an excellent option for students who may have missed the Fall intake or want to begin their studies in the Spring semester. With two intakes throughout the year, international students have more opportunities to plan and prepare for their studies at UMD.

Late Registration begins on the first day of classes. All students initiating registration for the semester on or after this date will be assessed a $20 late registration fee.

The acceptance rate at University of Maryland is 44.5%.

For every 100 applicants, 45 are admitted. This means the school is moderately selective. The school expects you to meet their requirements for GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but they're more flexible than other schools.

The total of graduate and undergraduate credits attempted in any semester may not be more than 18. The graduate credits so earned will not count toward any requirements for the bachelor's degree. An undergraduate student may take a maximum of nine graduate credits when taken as graduate credits only.

It is recommended that students take approximately 15 credits per semester to complete a degree in four years. Students may register for up to 16 credits without approval from their college. Students must register for at least 12 credits to be considered full-time.

Semester System

Fall semester first semester of the year, when enrollment begins. It starts in August/September and typically covers 15 weeks. Spring semester second semester, with fewer enrollments. It typically starts in January and also lasts 15 weeks.

The second (spring) semester begins in the winter and ends in June. No mid-term break exists in the academic calendar.

There is no minimum GPA requirement. However, applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA are considered on a space-available basis. Official Transcripts: College transcripts from every institution attended are required.

Admission to UMD is competitive. We typically receive over 58,000 applications for a fall freshman class of approximately 4,800. As a result, we are unable to offer admission to all students who have the ability to be academically successful at the university.

Call your child's new school and schedule an appointment. Be sure to take the SR7 card with you. The appointment will ensure that time is set aside to speak with you and to answer any questions you may have. Also, ask what items you need to bring with you to enroll your child in the new school.
